Now that the phone is ringing for these types of surveys again, I have a question. Our standard naming convention has always been to state it like this....... ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey and then list all the entities we were certifying to...

ACSM legally merged into the NSPS in 2012, so my question is this....What is the proper way to title the survey?

The current standards were published when ACSM still existed. The disolution of ACSM in 2012 didn't retroactively change the name of the standards published the previous year. I'm sure the name will change with the next update to the standards.

ACSM didn't merge into NSPS. NSPS was the largest member organization of the ACSM. When NSPS decided to separate, ACSM disolved. Or so I thought. As I look at the people making up the governance of NSPS it sure looks a lot like the ACSM.

Thus the question.........ACSM has dissolved so why do we call it an ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey?

Because the 2011 standards specify that you do so.

ACSM didn't "dissolve." NSPS and ACSM merged into a new entity called NSPS. In the process, NSPS acquired the right to use the ACSM name.

And because they were published prior to ACSM disolving. A book's title doesn't change just because the author dies or the publisher goes out of business. Same deal with the already published and still in effect standards.

And so all of the other member organizations are now a part of NSPS? I hadn't heard that. I thought that the whole point was for NSPS to separate itself from the other, smaller member organizations.
