I have a Trimble 5600 with a ACU data collector, it's 7 years old and out of warranty, so Trimble couldn't answer my question.
The problem I have with the Survey Controller 11.10 is that when I do a station setup and the back sight distance is very close to the calculated distance ( like 0.01 or 0.02'), after showing the delta H. Dist. for a second (see attached photo), the display shows a bunch of zeros (14 zeros), then If you accept the setup and go to the display, you can't see your points (calculated or measured) in the display. Immediately after that you here the ding sound and the message appears that I have taken a shot from and attached to this email. I have to cold reset and start from scratch. I have changed the duplicate point tolerance under Configuration->survey styles -> edit . I have tried 0.00 then tried 0.02', then 0.1' but it didn't help. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had a similar experience with a TSCe. If I remember correctly, I had to have the internal battery replaced. I can't remember if it was on the gun or the DC though.

I have not seen this problem before, but have you tried looking under options to see if you can change the tolerance for the backsight check? I see you already tried changing the duplicate point tolerance setting, but there is a separate setting for stakeout. I'm not sure which one it applies to the backsight check.

The only other suggestion I have is to backsight by angle only and then do a stakeout to the backsight point. Obviously that is more of a pain than using the normal setup screen, but it will work as a temporary fix.

Like mentioned above...do a hard reset.

Is it just in one job, or is it a global problem?

If it persists....reload the software...might fix it.

Tom,
The hard reset is so-called cold reset, right? the one with holding the power button for 5 seconds? I have done it, still the same problem.
This happens from time to time and recently more often. Today, after it happened again and talking to a tech support friend who was also clueless, I changed the measuring method from "Standard" to "Tracking", it did the trick and let me do the station setup.

Dan,
I don't think that duplicate point tolerance setting will have an affect on station setup measurement, but i will try to mess around with it next time the problem occurs.
Thanks

I just saw this thread so I apologize for showing up late.
After you get the error message and you reboot, browse for Disk|Trimble DataSC1110
Yours might be named something slightly different but it is the Survey Configuration File. DELETE this file. Don't worry, all you need to do is reset your radio settings if that applies to you. I've had issues with Survey Controller since 10.70. Sometimes it just seems to have a brain fart. I've never received an error message from the situation you describe. Mine usually come when I try to key in a point and I hear the dreaded boing. My Trimble rep told me about deleting this file. Once you start SC back up, the Survey Config file is automatically generated.
