I am having some difficulty doing static surveys with some older Topcon receivers, Hiper Plus and Legacy E with PGA-1 antenna. I am recording static data using Topcon receiver utility (TRU) on 2 data collectors as I don't have onboard recording activated on the receivers. TRU allows me to enter antenna height slant or not. I am post processing using Topcon Tools but have tested with GNSS solutions also.

I seem to be getting a fairly consistent vertical error of 30mm on known points and benchmarks. Horizontal is fine. Now I am fairly sure this is a problem with the antenna heights, as the 30mm would cover the difference between slant and vertical, or antenna phase center. The thing is the heights seem to be right in the RINEX and tps files and also in Topcon tools. All rod heights have been checked and are correct. Is it possible the error is being created in TRU somehow?

Does anyone have any insight into this?

Sounds like the difference between the ARP and the antenna phase center. I ran into this once when running RTK with my Hiper Lites. Somehow I must have accidentally changed the reference point on the antenna in the data collector. Check your antenna information in the Topcon Tools.

Yes that is what I am thinking as well.

When I import the .tps file from the PGA1 it doesn't bring in the antenna type just the slant height and I have to manually change it. When I import the Hiper .tps file it brings in all the information. Could the error be in the tps file somewhere? Is there a way to examine the actual data within the tps file?

I don't know about .tps files, but if you convert them to RINEX, then all will be revealed!

When I look at it in RINEX it has the antenna type but when I import to Topcon tools it doesn't recognize it and leaves it blank and I have to select manually.

I usually don't trust that things will import correctly.?ÿ I use all fixed height poles, so (not sure if you knew this) I select all of the days occupations, and go to properties, you can then select the antenna type, and fill in height.?ÿ Easier then doing each on its own.
