it's laughable to me how so many companies around here put "free soft drinks" in their list of bennies.?ÿ dead serious.?ÿ i worked for one of them for a decade.?ÿ it was in their job offer letter in 2003, it was on their website the day they were acquired by an even bigger firm in 2016.
Years ago I applied to the University of Idaho to work towards a Masters Degree in Engineering.?ÿ In their standard packet of information was a section on how wonderful it would be to live in the Moscow area.?ÿ A highlight was that I could reduce my living expenses by hunting and fishing.
BTW, that was a serious application.?ÿ I ended up taking a real job so didn't go there.
Heck, ol' Bill B______ had a 25 cent beer fridge at the shop in 1984. Not the biggest fridge but big enough to hold 4-5 cases of Price Club beer (pre-Costco). Summer months, with 4-5 3-man crews, we'd empty that sucker almost daily.
Bill paid 33 cents a can. Thought he would make money. Oops! Lots of money can rattling going on in them days, as I recall. Could get you a breakfast sando in the morning if you were the last one around on a Tuesday eve to load up the fridge for Wednesday.
Has the statute of limitations run out on that? Sorry Bill. I gave you the best union Certified Party Chief effort I had but I may have taken advantage of the 25 cent deal. Bill is no longer with us.
Call it a Covid-19 induced admission. No, I don't have it. Just feel a need to get this off of my chest in this almost-over pandemic.
Whew!

Dang!?ÿ You must be younger than me.?ÿ When I was buying beer during my high school days the standard price was $1.50 for a six pack or $5 for a case.?ÿ Tall Boys were more expensive but cheaper per ounce.?ÿ You could usually get Old Milwaukee in bottles for a buck a six pack.?ÿ Can't remember the standard price of higher percent beer at the liquor store because you were supposed to be 21 to go in there.?ÿ I found one that didn't worry about the age if you had cash in hand.?ÿ That trip normally involved wine to fill female requests and gin, sloe gin or schnapps and some rum for male requests.?ÿ Discovered swapping out flavored brandies instead of wine for the females made them, er, uh, er, uh, friendlier.
The legal age to buy 3.2 beer was 18 and I looked 20 when I was 14.?ÿ My high school science teacher with a Masters Degree would get carded but I wouldn't.?ÿ One local place gained the reputation of selling beer to anyone.?ÿ The way I put it was, "If you can walk into Dude's and reach high enough to lay your money on the bar, she will sell you what you ask for."?ÿ Sat in that joint one afternoon with a buddy and his mother sipping suds when we were 15 or 16.
Now a days, I haven't consumed a full beer or mixed drink in over 15 years.?ÿ Being legal took most of the fun out of it.
