My wife will be running an ultra-marathon race, 5 days in duration, in the middle part of Wales in the U.K. starting on September 2. The race starts in the Snowdon area and ends near the Black Mountain area. Since navigating while running is a difficult task, most of the route is not that populated, especially when she is in "zombie" mode, she wants to get some maps and get familiar with the countryside and route. The race organizers recommend getting maps from the Ordinance Survey, and I was wondering if our brothers across the pond have recommend a direct way to find and order OS printed topo maps? We are confounded by Google searches, but haven't come up on how to purchase. We would need to have the maps here in AK by end of August. If we can't get them before she leaves, she will have to "map cram" when she gets there.

BTW, she is GPS and technology illiterate, believe me, myself and others have tried to train her. She does pretty good reading topo maps, and visualizing her route.

Thanks in advance, I told her the Beer Leg resource may come through for us.

You might try here. About 10 years or so ago, I bought quads of C.A. from them.
It looks like everything is digital now which is a shame.

omni

I do have the ordinance survey map for the Stonehenge area.

Ordnance Survey Topo Maps

You could try ordering from here:

http://www.stanfords.co.uk/

It's gonna take an awful lot of the 1:25,000 scale Explorer maps to cover the whole route though.

You can look at the 1:25k's online here:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/

Just zoom in and pan along the route.

Amazon.com appear to have the full range available, and they promise 'delivery by July 26 if ordered in the next 21 hours'.

This is a useful site that integrates photos and OS maps, a chance to actually see parts of the route and surroundings. The photos are indexed by the 1 km grid squares so are easy to locate on the maps.

http://www.geograph.org.uk/

Google Earth and Street View coverage in the UK is pretty good as well.
