I have run a TDS 48. It was ok.

I have now a TDS Ranger 200. It is slow, and clunky for cogo.

I want a data collector that will emulate a post processed GPS file, as in, you can leave it alone, for 2 hrs, while you go and eat lunch, and it will tell you that it got 1500 fixed shots, and they were in 2 piles or groups, that are 3 ft apart, with the 2 averages, so you can look at it. One group lasted 2 mins, with high residuals, and the other looks like the good group.

I want to be able to do all my cogo on it, and have it work easily. Prorating, and calc-ing coords.

I want it to have a qwerty keyboard.

I have tried the old Carlson box. Too tall learning curve. Maybe the new one.

Microsurvey reps so far, don't know how to run it.

Really, I feel that is my most desperate need. A real dc. That would allow you to do it all.

Uh, Nate, sounds like you want a laptop in the truck and you can d/l the data and then calc it there, upload and roll on.

Otherwise, you SOL.

The best data collector is one that makes sense to you. I have no problem with our Recons and Nomads, but the Trimble ones are a little less user friendly, but doable.

Nate,

I gotta agree with Kris on this one.

I have both a Ranger 200T, and a Ranger 500X, and they fit the bill for me. Anything too calculation intensive, I will go to the truck, download on the laptop, and calc it on a bigger screen.

There is rarely anything that is so important that I have to calculate it right on the spot, in a manner you describe. I find that it is better, at least for me to get a little more comfortable, and calculate, double check, especially in the heat or cold.

I've used a Fujitsu tablet for 9 years now. It's a PC, so no need for a laptop.

I Love It!

Unfortunately, I need to upgrade my software, but what I currently use is "obsolete", (gone, unavailable).

I'm interested in the new Carlson tablet, But I need to check it out further first.

I do have Nautiz X7 with 800mhz processing speed loaded with Fieldgenius and SurvCE. I very satisfied with its performance. I only utilize my Getac V200 ruggedized laptop with Carlson Field if my task 3D as-built surveys. Getac is heavy and it doesnt give you the advantage of mobility in the field. I guess that the tablets shown below with Carlson SurvPC or Leica Mobile Matrix are good PC based data collection system. I don't know. It really depends on your work style.

I am so disappointed.

There should be at least one old fart saying: "The best D.C. is a field book with a number 2 pencil."

Then some reference to it and his slide rule never running low on batteries!

Come on!

Lol!,well said 🙂
But my favorite was always a Recon, reliable in high and low temps, great battery life,I've dropped them on land and in water and never had a problem.
Just my preference from my experience..
