California has declared marijuana stores as an essential business.
I have read the PA guidelines which call "Architectural, Engineering and related services" as non-essential. Separately the State has said that deadlines for DEP reportable projects will not be altered and environmental firms can continue to do monitoring and reporting services. Since some of my work is surveying for DEP reports, if a request was made I could do a monitoring survey. If so I have to go to a closed to the public office and get an explanatory letter if I were to be questioned.
Typically however I get few short notice projects and expect the lockdown to pass in minimal time.

expect the lockdown to pass in minimal time.
What's minimal? A few months??ÿ Short of 1) an influenza-like seasonal reduction, or 2) an effective treatment or 3) a miracle, this will go on a looong time.
this will go on a looong time.
What is a looong time?
Longer than we want it to be...
New housing is essential in California.
There is no way California is going back to business as usual in a couple of weeks.?ÿ
In the interim, I wonder if my telecom projects and municipal infrastructure improvement projects fall into the essential realm. More cellular capacity and safe streets are essential, no?
I rarely have contact with the public during the course of my surveying efforts but I feel it more important to do my part until testing and medical capacity are established here.
Wash your hands if you go out!

well, if we're gonna take the position that surveying is essential, by extension the fuel that makes many surveyors go would be essential as well...
Towards the bottom in the article here lists essential jobs. I think surveying could fall under many of these:

The executive order in Illinois says Professional Services are essential. I have a license from the state saying I am a professional, so I plan on continuing to work.?ÿ
Whether my clients can pay is another matter...
@mdavis exact same claim we are taking. Seems very straight forward to me.
I'm working on a groundwater sustainability project that involves establishing elevations at 150 monitoring wells (later to be expanded to several hundred, I think).?ÿ I'm working solo, the wells are mostly in ag fields (a few are near houses), and I rarely encounter anyone during my work.?ÿ If anyone asks, I'm saying that it comes under the federal Essential Infrastructure/Food and Agriculture exemption.?ÿ (So far no one has asked.)
