Mapping a gas well site and we are required to tie in and show the nearest occupied stucture. In this case, it is a Messianic Jewish house of worship. Not sure if it is to be called a Synagogue or Church. I'm leaning towards Synagogue after looking at their website, but it is not clear what the building is. Not a real problem, just interesting since I always try to be precise in my labelling.

Ah, additional searching says Synagogue is correct.

Is it occupied as a residence or only part time for the religious activitys held there? If not a residence, I would be using the nearest residence and would probably show the Synagogue also. My interpretation of what you say they are asking for would be, they are looking for the nearest residence.

''House of Worship''

Covers a Temple, Synagogue, Mosque or Church.

BTW, Church does not neccesarily imply a structure.

Also, the Israeli Supreme Court says they are Christian group.

It is not neccessary to reside in a building to occupy it.

Nope, if there is an accident at the well site, the gas vapors do not care if the people in the building are residing or just visiting for services. Nearest occupiable building.

Whether to tie the building was not a question. What to call it was the problem. I have never run across Messianic Jewish before. The website was interesting and a wider search on google revealed the building is referred to as a synagogue. I am curious what day of the week they meet.

Nomenclature Conundrum>come on Jud

"show the nearest occupied structure"

Have to say that Andy is right on this one. Trying to read between the lines and read that means "nearest residence" does NOT follow the intent of the request...

The only Jewish group to call their synagogues temples are the Reform Jews. The temple for the Orthodox Jews was destroyed in 70 c.e. by Rome under Titus.

Synagogue vs Temple

"Synagogue" (Greek for house of prayer) is used by many Jews who do not want to imply that they are replacing Solomon's Temple.

"Temple" is used in many other religions.

I have learned a bit keeping up on this thread.
