Watching the Boob tube last night, I watched a new US Army TV commercial, prominently features a US Army survey crew in an Afghanistan village conducting a topographic survey using a Trimble Robotic Total Station and prism pole wearing their daily combat gear, pretty kewl. The commercial was promoting high-tech careers in the US Army.

This is great! We can talk all day about the wonders of being a surveyor but just one short clip like this can really peak the interest of young people.

I believe you intended to use "pique" as in the second definition provided.

pique (pk)
n.
A state of vexation caused by a perceived slight or indignity; a feeling of wounded pride.
tr.v. piqued, piqu·ing, piques
1. To cause to feel resentment or indignation.
2. To provoke; arouse: The portrait piqued her curiosity.
3. To pride (oneself): He piqued himself on his stylish attire.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[French, a prick, irritation, from Old French, from piquer, to prick, from Vulgar Latin *piccre, ultimately of imitative origin.]

Perhaps it was a spell check problem?

Peak, pique

But only if they get a peek at it.

My brother worked for me after High School trying to figure out what to do with his life so he had a year of surveying before he decided on going into the Army . The Army sent him to Army surveying school and then Stationed him in Hawaii with a Army Engineering Division for a couple years , then 911 hit he was sent to Afganastan for a year did no surveying at all , ended up being the driver for the Base General and warming his coffee as my brother puts it.

He is now an Architect with a Master degree . While he did not get to any surveying they sure did straighten his butt out .
