Just picked up my new Topcon ES-105. This is replacing the old CTS-2 beside it. Now I Just have to figure out how to run it. 😀

I hear those are real nice. Does yours have the GSM card in it in the event it gets stolen you can track it? Also does it have the radio option to run the dc from the rod? I saw a similar instrument (Sokkia) the other day. I was impressed!

It has the card and the long range bluetooth. My collector does not have bluetooth however may upgrade it in the future. Has a really nice prismless mode. Very fast. Acts like its shooting a prism. Cant wait to try it out next week.

We have had 1 for about 8 months. Great gun. We also got a Ranger 3 with Bluetooth. You will probible want to get bluetooth soon. We have not used the long range yet. You will need a new DC cable as the connector on the gun is different. The port is also on the allidade and turns with the gun so bluetooth is almost mandintory for easy use. Closures have been very good. Don't leave the battery in the gun. It drains fast even when not in use. Taking it out at night gives great battery life. There is no quicking charging either, it takes the full 5.5 hr.. On our old 303d you could charge 30 min. and work all day. Not with this one.

Good luck
Mike

All good things to know. May be getting one in a week or two.

wow. I haven't seen one in person yet. looks kind of cool, but the cable in the top would be a deal breaker for cabled use. Bluetooth would be fine though. I wouldn't want to try and turn sets with trying to figure out what to do with the cable! Sounds like a money saving decision on Topcon's part.

The only complaint we have is the placement of the adjustment knobs and data port. It does make sets a pain and we turn 3 sets on all traverse points. Bluetooth kills the cable problem and you get use to the knob locations.

right on. I'd still be open to owning one, just not if I was married to a DC with a cable only connection (which I'm not). Thanks for the heads up on that.

Mike,

I've seen you post on the Topcon es and have a question on the bluetooth aspect. I am currently using a Topcon es 105 and been having a hard time maintaining the bluetooth connection between the instrument and a carlson surveyor data collector. (with the data collector right by the instrument) Its been so fustrating the we've ditched the bluetooth all together (using the cable).

Seeing your post I'm wondering if I have something set up wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (our local topcon dealer has said the setting look ok)

Thanks

Phil
