My son made a case for our Dell Venue 8 Pro, Windows 8.1, running Magnet PC.
This is the 1st prototype. It uses a standard Rod Clip and Holds the tablet Nicely.
This was printed on a 3D printer at a local computer store and cost us $0.00.
The next one will be a little more weather proof.

No wires needed except to charge it.
When I export the file on it, it just shows up on my Laptop and PC at home!!!

Figured that must have been made with a 3d printer.
Looks like a Crane carbon-fiber rod you got there.
My personal favorite.

How is the tablet for sunlight readability? Can you see it in full sunlight?

Thanks,

My junior in high school son recently designed and printed me a few compass holders for rods – very similar to level bubble holders on rods. They help greatly for stakeout.

Off subject but nice handle – I recently had a banner made for our local pool to support swim team and it had company name and in big letters - SWIM FOR LIFE

That is GREAT! I want to know when the days of the $3000+ custom data collectors will come to an end with tech the way it is. A bigger phone (or your tablet) will do everything our DCs will. Looks like your tablet is under $350. Not ruggedized... but for that price you can get a new one every year and be ahead of the game!

What computer store offers 3D printing services (and materials?) for free?

Maybe the son works at a store part time and they are in need of real life examples for marketing purposes?

My Son worked there for 3 years. Is good friends with manager and lots of employees 🙂
They have a floor model printing all the time. Helps sell them.
He now surveys with me everyday.

It's great in full sunlight.
At least the Dell Venue 8 Pro is.
We tried a Win Book 8 and the screen just didn't have the brightness to handle it.
I can turn the screen to 1/2 brightness most of the time. When in full sun it need
to be at 100%.
Battery life with the screen at 100% takes a hit and we end up at about 6 hours
Haven't run it out yet. It goes to standby after 10 min of inactivity and wakes up
and resumes with no problem. Way better than the FC2200 or 2600.
It went to sleep on a staking screen with GPS, I woke it up and it was instantly measuring.

Swim,

I'm looking for someone to 3d print a case with GPS pole mount, for a Panasonic ToughPad.

I already have the 3d model created.

Can you contact me Lee@Leegreen.com

ToughPad locking cradle

Lee:
Not sure how much it costs to 3D print something as big as what you're looking for, but in any case, you might check out these:

https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-TAB10U

Ram makes locking cradles for the ToughPad, either with or without the case; Then you can customize the bracket arrangement to position the unit exactly right.

The thing I like about them (aside from the mounting flexibility), is their plastic...it's super strong at all temperatures. I've yet to break anything they make.

ToughPad locking cradle

I tried that case. It is crap. Not rugged enough and does NOT fit with the extended battery that protrudes out the bottom. That ram case cost me $700, when the toughpad feel out of that case and on to concrete.

I created my case to use the ram ball mount. It should cost between $50-$75 to 3d print.
