I think you thought wrong...

Is that on a hard copy set of plans, an AutoCAD C3D file, a Carlson drawing file??ÿ I ask because you can change the text heights for the points in C3D where the drawing will be less cluttered.?ÿ I'm sure the same can be done in the Carlson software, but I do not know their software.

From posts on this board, I'm glad I got out of staking anything way back when I did.?ÿ It used to be you had a nice set of plans with all the data needed to go out and stake a site.?ÿ That seems to have been devolving for a while; which wouldn't be bad if the digital copies were easily available, accurate and clear.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly are you staking? Could any of the irrelevant layers be turned off on the plot? Looks like a recipe for a migraine.?ÿ?ÿ

Refer to the 2 screen shots... in the lower RH corner of the screen, manipulate the scale to get the point sizes to adjust. The 2 examples are at 50 and 20 scale.

This is another reason why I keep pushing for some basic CAD/C3D training for our field crews, at the very least our crew leads. The office ain't always there for you when time is of the essence.

Agreed. I jumped back into the heavy civil/staking world about 5-6 years ago and was gobsmacked at how variable (and often poor) the quality of digital plan drawings is.

I would love to have some additional language in our contracts that states our fees are based upon the assumption that 3D design drawing files are provided with fully developed alignments, vertical profiles, grading lines, finished grade surfaces, and match the signed and sealed set - if not, the work that we have to do to recreate those digital entities for staking will be billed at an increased T&M rate.

It's not going to happen, but I can dream...
