My new Leitz C-1

So... what's a Leitz C-1? I'm all curious now, Stephen.

My new Leitz C-1

A quite good automatic level that is approximately of the same quality as older Sokkias, Wilds and Zeiss' of the B1, NA-2 and Ni2 models. B-)

My new Leitz C-1

It definitely arrived earlier than expected.

Other than some wear marks from the case, the instrument looks nearly pristine. The old case shows that it has definitely been doing its job of protecting the instrument.
:-O

The C-1 was phased out and discontinued in favor of the B1A instrument introduced around 1975 or so. It must also be discontinued as it's no longer shown on the Sokkia web site. There was an earlier B1 auto level as well but few were sold. It was an odd looking instrument with the circular level vial on top of the telescope housing. It's pictured in a catalog from the late 1960's.

I work for a federal agency and we have been doing an inventory. We noted that we had a "Wet Instrument - Kerns", but can't find any information on what it is. I am assuming survey equipment since that is what we do. It was old, in a wooden box. The problem is that we can't find it now and are trying to figure out exactly what it was... Any ideas? You seem to know old survey equipment. Thanks AMB

Found the answer to my own question> Kern provided a "sticker" to place on the outside of the case to remind the user to not store a "wet instrument" in the tightly sealed case. So our missing survey instrument is just a Kern in a case with a sticker reading "Wet Instrument". Thanks to the company that got back to our email and explained about the sticker. HAHA Feel a little silly about the question now!!
