Way back in 2007, Gavin Schrock wrote a series of articles for American Surveyor entitled "RTN101". The 10th article in the series was about NTRIP.
So yesterday, I loaded up the BKG NTRIP Client and the fun began!
I actually was doing this exercise because I wanted to use a PBO CORS as a base station for an Airborne LiDAR flight later this week. Typically most CORS are NOT archived at 1 Hz data rate but 1 Hz or faster data is required to process the trajectory of the aircraft, the LiDAR sensor on board is actually collecting at 5 Hz (0.2" intervals).
Not ALL, but quite a few of the PBO CORS now stream data at 1 Hz for real time use. With BKG NTRIP Client installed, I can tap into any PBO CORS (or any other CORS) that has a real time feed and log that data to a 1" RINEX file on my office PC in real time. Without this ability, I either have to contact PBO and request this custom data product or use an interpolation software to create the data from a much slower archived RINEX file. As a side note, I have experimented with the interpolation routines and interpolating base station data from 5" to 1" or 0.5" or 0.1" doesn't necessarily cause enough error to sink the ship.
Very cool, I am about as excited as a kid in candy store about this discovery!
