I get a little teary-eyed reading through all that love and affection..oh the memories.
It's probably fitting that this classic post still maintains a strong "ring of repugnance" after all this time.?ÿ ????ÿ
I don't remember that one.
You would if you read it.?ÿ You (and everybody else) got into it with Kent about rocks under paving.?ÿ The OP had a unique situation near Harmonyville, PA that had an old deed call to a stone under a paved roadway.?ÿ Kent felt sure that if someone would actually dig up the road they would find a rock....
The post ran from GPR and then devolved into muck-slinging.?ÿ Not our finest hour...
edit:?ÿ Kent has not changed his opinion one iota since then, by the way.
Kent made a derogatory comment about Pennsylvania Surveyors early in that thread and I went too far in trolling him back.?ÿ
Anyway the entire thread ignores the real problem, a neighbor that is nuts. We could all go there and find the true location of the boundary beyond a shadow of a doubt and the neighbor would still be nuts and not believe us.
:?ÿ Kent has not changed his opinion one iota since then, by the way
nor should he have
Paul tried to reason with Kent on page 24 and it looks like the real beginning was on page 32.

You're exactly right James.
PS - I wish he'd pop back in here sometime.?ÿ There's nobody else south of the Rio Roxo that can argue quite as rigidly or quickly as he.

um... "can" ?ÿ "wants to".

As I recall, 3 folks were given a short "time out".?ÿ That thread was not the "demise of a major poster."?ÿ He simply chose not to return....yet!
Attempting to apply field practices that may work in West Texas conditions to a very specific site 2000 miles distant is what lit me up. ?ÿProbing for stones with a T-handle pipe probe only works in areas where the only stones around were placed there by humans. ?ÿI was sentenced to the idiot's corner for pointing out the futility of using such a practice in Harmonyville.

I remember thinking the same thing but I don't remember if I was ever foolish enough to get into the fray.?ÿ?ÿ?ÿI always supposed one could derive a location from available evidence at the school site, then chisel a 6" square in the asphalt, dig down a bit and miraculously "find a rock".?ÿ
What a 'eureka' moment...
Just for the record:?ÿ I have learned that digging for stones in roadbeds can be elusive without some damned good and hard evidence.?ÿ They're never where you want them to be, they probably won't be anywhere near where you even think they might be...and if you get "stone fever" and start enlarging your initial search area you can ruin a perfectly good roadbed in a little over a half a day.?ÿ The county road superintendent will then hunt you down like a wild coyote.
I beg to differ. The aforementioned was an insufferable you know what quite frequently and to say he should not change is BS. He can still stand tall and have strong convictions without being a ass.
While I do not know for certain I have heard the same thing apparently got Ted Dura banned and I don't see anyone longing wistfully for his return.

Kent made a lot of intelligent posts and contributed a great deal, but was sometimes too argumentative for the sake of winning or perhaps just prolonging an argument.
TDD had very little positive to contribute, other than possibly entertainment value by his far-out statements, and a lot of negativity toward the world in general and sometimes our host in particular when he was censured.
What is the point of this post? Holycow can you not let sleeping dogs lie? You have an obsession with Kent and Texas Surveyors.?ÿ
WOW, I missed that whole post and kinda glad I did. I did immediately recognize the GIS from the OP as Chester Co. Been surveying here for 30 years and can fairly comfortably say that no one I ever knew/know would attempt stone retrieval in a paved cartway. I spent enough time and labor chiseling after pins, RR spikes and PK's that were called for only to come up with some large pieces of iron slag as often as not. We would receive enough flak from Road Masters for cutting 4" squares out of the pavement searching for the forementioned. It appears the same folks are living at that address. Hope they ironed out their differences.
