I think I'd just stay at the Jameson distillery and drink until I couldn't see straight.

Thunk up by COL. Alexander Ross Clark, R.E. Years later he also designed and supervised the Great Triangulation of Great Britain. When they wanted to promote the great geodesist to Brigadier in the Royal Engineers, they discovered that he had never set foot outside of the British Isles.

So, ... they assigned him to the British Crown Colony of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, considered at the time to be the closest place to Paradise in the British Empire. COL. Clark was insulted with the one-year assignment! He promptly resigned his commission, retired, and never did a lick of work in geodesy ever again.

That's the guy that came up with the Triangulation of Ireland.

Between 1829 and 1842 Ordnance Survey Ireland completed the first ever large-scale survey of an entire country. Acclaimed for their accuracy, these maps are regarded by cartographers as amongst the finest ever produced

Lovely,

Many happy memories of my trips there.

Here I am at a trig pillar on Dursey Island. Wonderful views. Miss the days of triangulation...

Best trig pillars.
