Ahh the life of a surveyor... I'm spending this lovely Friday evening in South Alabama preparing for the Mississippi Exam next Friday.
Can any of you Mississippians make any suggestions for specific subjects to concentrate on that they recall were on the exam?
Thanks!

I'm not from Mississippi, but I do a lot of work in northwest Mississippi. I have been licensed in Mississippi since Spring 2002.

I studied the rules and regs and minimum standards available from the Board's website. The Mississippi Association of Professional Surveyors has some good reference books available from their website. The BLM manuals are also helpful.

I took the exam in April 2002 at a public building in the park next to Ross Barnett Lake in Jackson, MS. I seem to remember there were about 100 questions, and it was closed book.

Good luck!

Also study Fitz's book and Burt's book if they are available to you (I think the names are correct). I doubt if you could get them before next Friday if you don't already have them in time to study much. But, they are also good reference books if you are planning on doing much surveying in MS, both for history and law. Should be available from MAPS. If you study the materials they recommend, you will do OK.

Yes, those are the books I was referring to. They are available from MAPS.

There are numerous questions straight from Fitz manual, Burts book, and the BLM manual as well as all the MS rules and regs.

I appreciate all the help guys. I have spent 100% of my time concentrating on Burt's book, Fitiz's instructions and the MS. rules and regulations.
I have actually enjoyed studying the history of Mississippi, living less than 5 miles from the AL/MS state line it's quite interesting how the original surveys of the two States overlap so much.

I just received my letter from Alabama board today. I am approved to sit for the ALLS exam. It seems Mr. Lucas, from POB magazine has a lot of publications pertaining to AL law. Lucky for me Birmingham for the AL exam is a much closer drive for me than my MS exam in Vicksburg.
