Does anyone know where I can find GLO field notes for the State of Mississippi? I have looked at the glorecords.blm.gov website and it looks like they only have the township plats.
Each county courthouse should have a certified copy, usually in the Chancery Clerk's office in th record room. Also, you can contact the Secretary of State's office land division. The contact I have used before was Paul Johnson, but I don't know for sure if he is still there. There are some notes for the Washington meridian that simply do not exist, and some plats have up to 3 different versions. Good luck!
There are extremely limited partial field notes for the State of Mississippi on the BLM website. It depends on where in our PLSS system you are looking. I am in Northeast Mississippi, and some outer township boundary records are on line, but most all of the internal township section line records have not yet been scanned and put on line. I work in the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Huntsville Meridian areas. It is critical to know how the township and section lines were originally surveyed before retracement. I hope that the BLM people will continue their scanning and recording efforts to get all of the Mississippi records available on their website. As of right now, the county courthouse records are our best resource. At least the township plats are on the BLM website. Other information, such as old quad maps and aerial imagery, are available on Mississippi's MARIS website.
Call the Mississippi Secretary Of State's office. That's where I've always gotton field notes.
