The other day, I saw an ad for surveying personnel on craigs list. The ad specifically stated it was for the Baltimore (MD) area and 60 mile radius. I responded and got the response that the office is located in Cincinnati Ohio. I was also asked if I had plans of relocating.
I am (obviously) still disturbed by the ad. Makes me wonder how much of a "true" presence the company has in Maryland among other things. I'm hesitant to post the company name. If "the powers that be" tell me it's ok to do so, I would find it interesting to get direct feedback about the company itself from the folks on this board.
Just guessing you see
But, would this be similar to the firm you mentioned?
Just guessing you see
Yes, that would be so very similar one might say it's the same company.....:-)
Nope, it's almost definitely this one
The web based mortgage survey "business" is the last refuge of scoundrels.
I don't know why it would be wrong to say the name of the company as long as you aren't lying about anything they stated or the facts of the matter. But I could see how others could be bothered by it.
Yeah, stay far away from those guys. they have an office about an hour away. I can smell them from here.
Thanks for confirming my thoughts folks. Part of what I was thinking was that the company would need a physical presence in whatever state they were doing work in, otherwise how would they do the measuring? Google Maps or something?:-X
Back when I was looking for jobs in the fall, there was one opportunity in Atlanta....
Job description: must be able to work year round in North Dakota
Huh?
What "got" me about the ad I saw was that it specifically said "Baltimore 60 mile radius". No mention of Ohio. At all. Until I received the answer to my inquiry. Started running pronto......
Maybe, just maybe
These "surveying" companies are little branches on this great big tree.
Check it out. They are into all types of technical adventures.
Maybe, just maybe
That rings some kind of bell, saw something that made me think they were involved in something bigger. The page you referenced there seems to deal with computer stuff & IT (granted I didn't kick around too much there)
I saw one of their surveys today for the first time. Visually it looked OK, but it was pretty bad when you really looked at it from a surveyor's standpoint. I was unaware that a straight right-of-way could kink like that. 🙂
Another adventure from my job hunting:
Applied for a job in Kentucky...didn't hear anything for almost 5 months. I finally heard back recently. It turns out I was a finalist for a bridge project. ONE project...and then out you go. Sketchy, sketchy, and sketchy.
That's why I treat interviews from "me to the company" standpoint as well as the standard way of treating interviews.
We got one of them in Texas....
funny...most of the names seem to be the same. the phone # is.
never trust anyone who uses
never trust anyone who uses DOTS in their phone numbers instead is DASHES.

It took me awhile to get used to dot separators in phone numbers, but now I like it and have adopted it as standard practice.
What bugs me is web form designers who require you to put parentheses around the area code. THOSE are the folks you shouldn't trust.

I like using dots because it is much quicker for data entry than parentheses and dashes.
