I know we're all tired of this trope by now, but the main character is a surveyor in?ÿyet another Hollywood movie.?ÿ Joking aside, I've only seen 30 minutes so far, and the surveying scenes are comically inaccurate, but it's cool to see one's forebears on the big screen.?ÿ
I can't even begin to fathom how you could survey the amazon using a transit and chain. Wait a minute, is that a dumpy level he is using in the picture?
I have an old Gurley level that has a horizontal circle (30' ticks) and stadia hairs.?ÿ I could see someone using it for rudimentary mapping.?ÿ As for dragging a chain through the jungle...good luck!
A wise old surveyor once said if he fell out of an airplane, he'd rather have a chain than a parachute...simply because it was definitely gonna get caught on something on the way down.?ÿ 😉
It looked like they were using the instrument with a stadia rod to do a tacheometric survey.
and the surveying scenes are comically inaccurate,
That's the main reason I read a book instead of seeing a hollywood interpretation. I create my own movies while reading. ?????ÿ
I tried watching that show and failed miserably.?ÿ
try it again, first 30 minutes really slow, actually the entire movie is slow, but it gets better.
early british explorers were a unique bunch,
imagine going on an expedition when your son is a baby and arriving when he's in grade school.
