Any good links on how to line code in Smartworx to automate figure/linework regeneration in Civil 3D?

Thank you.

In my opinion, Smartworx is not a product of thorough systems analysis and design. Traversing tabs/menus is unfortunately tough. Intuitiveness is absolutely not in Smartworx environment when it comes to line coding.

Just login to civil 3d and turn on the toolspace menu, then go down and open the survey tab. Then open the option that says "Linework Code Sets." There will be a code ate called "Sample" and you can right click and edit or copy that. That will show you the built in civil 3D codes or you can edit them to whatever you want.

I don't have problem with Civil 3D language with regards to code, linework, and figure. What I am trying to achieve is on how to do it in Smartworx environment using the Civil 3D coding language in such a way that codes are preserved when observation data or points are brought into Civil 3D.

Anybody experienced enough in Smartworx viva line coding environment? Line coding is unfortunately not a well documented item of Leica Viva.

In reference to the attached image, I wish to design a coding scheme wherein I am able to connect points of same code with polylines in a zigzag way of data collection.

Thank you.

There is a good smartworx bulletin available. it is called 'stringing' and it shows you how to build a codelist and set up the attributes. make attribute 1 a numeric field and set the line command to pay attention to attribute 1. on your codelist, make codes that are lines 'point with begin line'. it's very powerful once you get that part set up. i will check for the bulletin tomorrow for you.

Hi, don't mean to be a stalker, but I notice you are using various data collector and software. What made you switch to smartworx from fieldgenius or carlson?

I'm probably wrong and this may be unrelated, but the story I heard down this way is that, down this way, 12d (made in Aussie) is the primary opposition to Civil3D and that 12d originated as a survey program specifically to handle Leica instruments, then evolved into a full blown land development package but kept that tie with Leica, such that all the Leica instruments I've seen around here are "shipped" with 12d. So as a speculation, maybe Leica aims its workflow etc at 12d, not Civil3D.

Ah ha - that explains the awful UI, the difficulty of use and a number of the bugs - sorry, "features"

I've only seen 12d in action on a couple of occasions and what struck me was it appeared to be a completely different way of thinking/navigating around things but ultimately does the same as all the packages. In the dark suicidal days of Civil3D 32bit I looked hard into switching to 12d but only managed to find one comparison online from a guy who used both - at that time he concluded that they were both as bad as each other. We've continued with Civil3D and love it. One good thing is if you know AutoCAD, you're half way there.

I am not switching from one data collection system to another. I am a user of SurvCE, Fieldgenius, and Smartworx. What I am trying to achieve in this thread is the idea of maximizing lineworks using Smartworx. As we all know, SurvCE and FG are great products for lineworks application but Leica is quite difficult to maximize using third party apps.
