I am having trouble finding the tool in my Leica CS20 remote controller to measure the power line height above my head (unreachable object). The job can't be done with laser as it's too far and thin. When I used Trimble there was as an opportunity to first stand below the line and measure to the prism and then show the line. So the instrument used the angles to calculate the power line height. I am sure that Leica has this opportunity too, but can't find the information from the Internet nor the controller, where can it be located.?ÿ

Under the measure point app, you have three options: measure, distance and store.?ÿ
measure shoots a distance and stores the shot in one step.
distance shoots a distance and displays on the screen
store simply stores whatever data in on the screen
to store offset shots, shoot the distance (for your use, make sure the prism hit is set to 0), then dial the crosshairs to the overhead line, and press store.
It says "Distance measurement not achieved-signal too weak, break in beam or air turbulence." The power line is far and it's thin. With wind it's moving too much also so, there got to be another opportunity. Is there? 😀
Look in the app tools.?ÿ There is a remote height application that does exactly what you want.

Another approach is to change the vertical angle from "fixed after distance" to "free after distance" shoot D, turn up and hit record. Not sure about where it is on your soft but on the older Leica it was something like settings-units-angle-vertical angle
for whatever reason this is like the last thing i still want to do old school.?ÿ so i just book everything and do a little geometry in the truck.?ÿ doesn't happen very often, so it's almost like knocking off the cobwebs...
@party-chef in Captivate the hold vertical angle option is found on the 'Angle' tab of the 'Regional Settings' page.
@summerprophet by default the instrument will hold the vertical angle once a distance is taken.?ÿ You need to change that option as I described in a reply below.?ÿ I think the instrument uses the slope distance from the distance shot and thus the resulting height will be off.?ÿ This works great for shooting a feature were you can get close to the actual height since the distances will not vary by much, I'm not sure how it work for a power line that is 30 feet higher.
@least is it something that should be additionally downloaded to the controller or is it suppose to be for example in CS20. It's just...I can't find it.
Its one of those, hidden until you have a distance measured. Measure the distance to your prism, then app tools, and you should see it there as attached.
@least found it, thank you a lot! Will try it tomorrow outside too, but I am sure it works as I wanted to. Leica knows how to hide stuff. But I'm glad to find out new things 🙂
lol, always in the most sensible place, vertical angles do work different depending on where you are. Sounds like it is the reverse of smartworx, where the regional settings are a tab in the units and formats page.
