I am using my Leica CS15 with my GS14 for four years now and I am thinking of buying a new Leica TS16 total station without necessarily buying a new CS20 + Captivate software. My intention is to achieve a GPS+TPS complete workflow solution.

Can I use my CS15+Viva Smartworx to drive TS16? Any experience?

Thank you.

I have the TS16 and was told that the CS15 is not compatitable, only CS20 or CS35.

How about the other way around? Can I use the CS20+Captivate for my old GS14?

I believe they are compatible subject to having up to date compatible firmware/software versions. You might be able to check this in the release notes of your software version. These are on Leica myworld. Not much advantage in a ts16 over a ts15 though unless you are using the new software and controller. The CS20 isbthe best thing about it. It will definitely control a gs14. But again it is subject to up to date firmware on the gs14.

Any idea on the firmware version a GS14 can be driven by Captivate? Thank you.

I believe it is 6 and up. I have 5.7 on my unit and updated the CS20 to 2.3, so now I have to update the GS14 to 6. I have the CCP on my units, so it is just a matter of doing it.

I just upgraded one of my CS15's to v6.16 to see if they added support for the newer instruments and they did not. Highest you can operate with the CS15 is a GS15 and TS15/MS50.

It depends on the Captivate version. We actually had ours done before the cs20 and the CS20 then needed bringing to version 2 of captivate before it would connect. The Captivate release notes have the exact answer.

Not at all. My comment was specifically regarding what models could be driven by a CS15 running Smartworx Viva. I don't have a GS14 so can't speak to the lowest firmware version Captivate will work with.

Yes I thought/guessed that it could run a ts16 but stand corrected. No sarcasm!
