It will be time soon to upgrade our 10 year old TCRA1101's. We have been running TDS on-board these guns and love the convenience. Since TDS is owned by Spectra, who is owned by Trimble I don't see any more TDS on-board Leica guns.

I haven't used Leica GSI format in many years. Never really liked it, can't read a bunch of numbers as well as text. What are others doing with their Leica guns. Using on-board, or external collection? Are there converters available to transform the GSI format to something more readable? How are control coordinate files handled, and what format for them? Since we always process Raw data I do not want to simply upload and download coordinate files.

Tim, they have the option to output into TDS format. We are going to go with the new CS15 Viva data collector for our new 1200. It has the built in radio and all the bells and whistles.

Nice work Tim, I've been wanting to post that same question for awhile now...

I don't think we'd ever use the full robotic portion of the new Viva instrument, so I've been looking at the Leica Flex-Line series of instruments. I really don't want to have to use an external data collector though...

Keep me in the loop if you find anything that sounds promising.

Hasta~

Bill is sending us a Leica S06 to demo. We've got some quarry work to do requiring long range reflectorless.
If I can export to TDS format that would be sweet.
I'm sure we'll figure out something, just don't want to totally re-write the way we do business.

Many Leica users down here are using Carlson data collection.

Leica TS on-board collection TIM.....

I have always used on board collector GSI out put is set up for what i want recorded, which is different to what I want to screen view. Can not remember as I can not see your post , but I believe that you only get coordinates.

If that is case are you aware that you can set up all traditional raw data to be downloaded, including the additional data like , date time PPm, reflector correction slope distance etc, unadjusted coordinates ( to allow set up checking as traverse), etc?

I then feed download straight into Liscad survey package for processing. If necessary editing any line(s).

Leica TS on-board collection and transfer

That reminds me of a question i posed two years ago, and still don't know the answer of:

How can we get setup data from a Leica TCR705 into the .gsi file?

We know the setup data (at, BS, HI, etc) are recorded -- we can scroll up/down to them within the instrument back in the office -- but when we upload the .gsi file to a computer, only the "shot" data (to, HA, VA, SD, HS, etc) get transferred, no setup data.

We don't have the same problem with the Leica TCA2003 (ie, the setup data are transferred OK).

The solution must be something to do with filters, but do you know how to do it?

Thanks.

PS: It's not a major problem for us because our field crews always hand book their traverse data, transfer all available digital data to Copan's Field Data Process module, then simply manually add missing setup data before processing. However, some Copan users complain that the program is "hiding" their setup data! I reply "It cannot show what is not there" but it'd be nice to be able to offer a solution.
