Hello Leica guys!
I know there are Leica sellers in this group. Hoping that you respond favorably to this inquiry.
As my supplier told me, OWI is a license that opens up a particular equipment like GS14/GS15 receiver to the outside world. I would presume that OWI license has nothing to do with any third party data collection system licensing process like that of SurvCE or Fieldgenius. I would also presume that I need to key-in the OWI code in SmartWorx to initiate opening of the GS14/GS15 receiver. This process is just for unlocking the GS14/GS15 receiver to the outside world. With the receiver now open, I can use any third party data collection system of my choice. The licensing of any third party system is not connected to a particular OWI code. Is this correct?
Thank you so much guys!
Regards.

Amdomag,
Things changed between the System1200 and Leica Viva. In System1200 the OWI license for GNSS was sold in order to open up the functionality of the receivers to third-party software. In Viva it has changed in that it is just not having the OWI license activated. A software company would need to have an agreement with Leica in order for the Viva systems to be able to communicate with the equipment. It is not that they do not want to work with other software. I think the reason was because customers always blamed the hardware for issues that were really due to errors in the third-party software applications. The new system allows Leica to be able to have interaction with other software packages if they can reach an agreement with Leica and have quality control in place.
Since MicroSurvey is now under the Hexagon umbrella, all current versions of MicroSurvey software should work with The Viva receivers from my understanding. The latest version of Carlson also will work with the Viva receivers but I think you are required to run Carlson on the Viva CS controller. I am not 100% sure about requiring the CS15 controller and would have to check.
Given the Carlson SurvCE/SurvPC and the Microsurvey Fieldgenius agreement with Leica, does it mean I can utilize any of them when a GS14 is now open via an OWI license? Is this correct?
Thank you for your reply.
Regards.
Leica GS14 can be paired with SurvCE 3.01 irrespective of the data collector brand. This is according to Carlson support. Leica GS14 can also be paired with SurvPC 3.xx irrespective of PC brand/make. But in any situation, LOP17 needs to be purchased and activated.
The GS15 requires the SurvCE to be installed in CS15. This is also according to Carlson surppot. My question here is the OWI requirement since the SurvCE is installed in a Leica data collector.
Again, thank you so much.
Regards.
Amdomag,
I want to get a definitive answer on this questions. I need to make sure I have the answer 100%. I will contact Leica and get the word from the product manager to make sure I can post this correctly. I will try to get the information by tomorrow.
Carlson is wrong about that one, at least for right now.
The GS14 will only fully operate on a CS15 data collector. There are still bluetoothing issues and radio channel selection issues with other data collectors, for that matter even using a Cs15 without a version on viva to support the SurvCE.
I hope there will be a remedy soon, 98% of my Leica sales are paired with Carlson. However at this time, although they think they're correct in saying it I have yet to have an engineer get me fully connected without issues to non CS Controllers.
Amdomag,
OK... Here is what I could find out...
1. On System1200 you always need the OWI license... I know you are talking about Leica Viva but just wanted to make sure everything was covered.
2. As I mentioned before Leica needs to allow a third-party software to have a program in their packages before any software can communicate with Viva GNSS units
3. If you are running MicroSurvey products on a Viva collector you do not need the OWI because this license can be bypassed when the MicroSurvey is running on a Viva Controller.
4. If you are not running MicroSurvey on a Viva controller you will need the OWI license
5. You need the OWI license to run Carlson if Carlson is on the Viva controller or any other data collector.
Cwlawley mentioned that there are issues with Carlson running on non-Leica data collectors. I would think this is because of work to be done on the connections from the collectors to the receiver. Blueooth connections or cabled connections may or may not work with Carlson on other collectors.
Thank you for sharing this..
Have a nice day..:-)
