Does anyone know how to do linework within the Leica Viva software so it comes into AutoCAD LDD? I was told to key in B_ep in the description (that would be "Begin, space, edge pavement") but that doesnt seem to work.

The manual only talks about "Leica linework" which, I guess, doesnt translate to CAD.

Thanks.

What kind of file does it produce?

Is a raw or rw5? Is it a file that can be converted to a fbk?

If so, you just need to use your regular LDD descriptions.

.fbk file downloaded straight from the collector. This is for a Leica Viva GNSS RTK system.

There are no options for regular linework that I can find, (begin, end, etc.) has to be part of the code from what I'm told.

Does LDD have an option of converting the Leica codes into a fbk?

I know that a Carlson DC raw file, using the description codes can be converted to a fbk, and the Begin and other commands will be created. But you'd need Carlson software to do that. Carlson can also import a Leica DC file and convert it to a fbk.

But if you had Carlson, you probably wouldn't be asking about LDD and fbk linework, then, would you?

I don't have that equipment, so this is just from experience....

The "Begin EP" needs to be put in as a note before you shoot any EP points.
The line work is all done in LDD and not in the Viva system.
So you need to learn how to make the Viva system make the fbk file correctly.

See if that works.

VH,

There are many ways to get Leica SmartWorx data into different CAD packages. If you are concentrating on an .FBK for Autodesk products you will need to be sure that everything is setup in CAD. You will need to set up your Descriptor Key Library so C3D or LDD knows what codes are available and which layer they import into, what symbol may need to be instered, etc. Then you can start importing FBK files for automated linework.

Onboard Leica SmartWorx there are two ways to get the FBK into CAD correctly

1. Use code-driven line work - you will need to use the Code for each point to create the linework in CAD. You merely code the points with a BEG for begin and other FBK commands. There is a utility in C3D to take an ASCII file with the code driven linework and convert it into a "proper FBK file". The disadvantage to this is that if the data is total station data you C3D database will not have any raw data. An FBK from GNSS RTK will never have raw data.

2. Create the linework in the field inside SmartWorx and then export the FBK on board or use the free tool Leica XChange on a PC to convert the file or use this free tool directly in C3D to import Leica data directly. Leica XChange can be downloaded from the Leica myWorld customer site.

The reason you need to create the linework onbaord to export a proper FBK is that the export routine needs to have the points lines and areas created to know how each is connected, where they start and end, and in which order the were created. You do not necessarily need to keep up with the data in the MAP view but you can if you like. The Map view is a very useful tool that is not used as much as it should be.

I am trying to find the links to some Leica webinars that covered the topic. I will forward these to you when I find them.

Why not just post the links here? I would be interested in checking out Leica Webinars.

I will post them here... I had a document with all of the links but I cannot find it for some reason. I have an email in to a Leica buddy to get the current list and I will post them when I hear back from him.

The process is easy once you see it.

Awesome, thank you. 😀 The crew has the unit out with them today, I'll fool around with it tonight and see what I can do.
