From a good search of the RPLS back catalogue appears that Leica tripods are the best [wooden] set of legs (I'd be hoping by now Crain have fixed their legs since the https://www.fig.net/resources/proceedings/fig_proceedings/fig2009/papers/ts08c/ts08c_eichhorn_etal_3208.pdf study and white paper here https://leica-geosystems.com/products/levels/accessories/tripods)

The two papers above show the cheaper (GST101) performs at least as well as the dearer (GST20/120) for robotic total station use.?ÿ I'm only 5'7" so the extra height on the GST20/120's is no use to me.?ÿ Seems a no brainier to go for the GST101 as they are 1/3 the price of the GST20/120's unless they fall apart quickly.

?ÿ

Is anyone using the GST101 (previously CTP101's I believe) and can comment on their durability/longevity??ÿ From what I've seen the GST20/120's should see out a decade+ of careful use (not putting away wet etc) and interested how others have found the GST101's last.

The "self closing" arrangement on the GST 120-9?ÿ is worth whatever it costs, IMO.?ÿ I can't think of any reason to buy any other Leica branded option. I've seen that model 10 years old with at least 10 years of life left in them. And that is with using them in the rain through the winter. We work in the rain in the PNW. Being wood, they do need to be brought inside for the weekend after a rainy week. If you don't they will eventually swell enough to bind up. If you don't work in the rain that isn't a thing for you.
