Hi guys,

Asking this on behalf of a friend.

He has come into a new office where they have a new Leica total station and a Leica base and rover and software, but he doesn't seem to have a COGO and CAD drafting program. (It is mostly a mapping company with a little bit of surveying. He is a licensed surveyor) He has:

A Leica Geo Office program already loaded up.

ArcMap already loaded up.

A CD stating "Leica FlexLine Instrument." The software box says "Leica FlexLine Instrument and Office." It seems that the company only acquired the Instrument version and not both, but he can't be sure because it won't load on any machine because it says it won't work with the current Windows version.

The company has no problem getting him a COGO / CAD drafing package, they just want him to be sure that there isn't one already.

He has looked at Leica Geo Office and it does not appear to be able to do any COGO or drafting. He can get the points to display, and he can change their datum and projection, etc., but not much else.

Arc Map, pretty much the same thing, except he can add a few lines but it's not easy and won't suffice for surveying grade analysis for data. (It's been a while, but this pretty much fits with what I remember of ArcMap.)

The FlexLine is the kicker. He feels that since it says Instrument and not Office or Instrument AND Office it probably isn't anything but for configuring the data collector and the total station. To help confirm this, the manuals on the CD (Which is the only thing he can read) are for the total station only. Nothing about a computer software program.

Can anyone out there familiar with Leica Geo Office and or especially Leica FlexLine confirm this, that he still probably needs to get a COGO / CAD drafting program?

Much appreciation,

Stephen

Leica has two versions of their office software. There is Leica Geo Office (LGO) which is the full office software package and then their is the other Version which is Leica Flex Office (LFO). The LFO started out as a smaller office software package to give users of the FlexLine instruments a basic interface. The basic interface started to give users the ability to upload and download data and software upgrade interface with the instrument.

You can now get versions of LFO that include other options but the main question is...

Is your friend using the ob-board application on the FlexLine or is he using a data collector.

I think that will be the starting point to see whether or not he wants to expand the abilities of LFO or if he could even move to LGO to QC and adjust his TPS data from the FlexLine

I will assure you that LGO is not a CAD program. How much you can do with it depends on how many modules have been purchased. The basic will provide some tools for importing and managing data. If you want to resolve static vectors or perform LS adjustments, amongst other things, you have to buy the appropriate modules.

Flexline looks like a line of instruments. Doesn't look like Flex Office is a CAD package either.

cogo IS in LGO. at the top of screen, use 'tools', then 'cogo calculations'

have them look me up if there is further trouble

Agreed, there are COGO tools, but they appear to be very rudimentary. There is just inverse and area calculations and line calculations. There isn't things like translate, rotate, scale and there isn't best fit line or curve that I can see.
