So I went to buy a new GEB 171 and found that they are no longer made. I placed 3 orders on-line from vendors that stated "in stock" every order failed and I was told that they were no longer available. I did call FLT and they told me that they has sold out too.
Now I am suppose to use a GEB 371 battery. OK BUT you will need a new charger which cost $250+- The battery / charge combo would come to about $650 and that is more that I want to pay.
Is there an adapter cable that will charge the GEB 371 from my GKL 23 charger? Has anyone else run into this problem?
The last time I bought a new battery I was looking for a GEB 70 and was told "they didn't make them anymore" and that I had to but a GEB 171, which I did but I could still use the charger I already owned. I don't know why they keep changing batteries, maybe the new equipment needs more power.

In some cases this is probably true, but I think it is more likely along the lines of planned obsolescence.
The only superior evidence is that which you haven't yet found.
The change in the charger is probably due to a change in battery design; NiMH to Li-Ion. Not producing the 171's is certainly a push for EOL for not only the battery but what it's running too.
I have several of this company's batteries for 530s and 1203s. Very happy with the quality and service.

Jethro: Thanks. I have looked at the gpac batteries in the past but they will not hang on the instrument legs like the Leica batteries do.
I will just have my old GEB70 units recelled again, I was hoping for new.

I think the interface continues to be the same on all of the Leica batteries. If I were a little younger I would just bite the bullet and move up to the new system but I am getting old as is my instrument.
