Hi guys
Every so often I get asked to produce sections through the land I've surveyed. I'm happy to do this, and my software (LSS - UK produced software) generates them easily enough.
?ÿ
For me a section shows the levels at a particular cut line going through a site.
?ÿ
One of the architects I do work for is now asking for what I understand to be sectional elevations, i.e. a section through a site with various features past the section line projected onto the section line.?ÿ
?ÿ
I've surveyed a road with a wall which is on the side of the road. She wants me to produce a section through the road (along the length of the road)?ÿ and to also show the wall to the side of the road.
?ÿ
Is this the sort of thing that Land Surveyors do?
?ÿ
Regards, Andrew
We used to do it quite often when I was still in Sydney. We were using 12d, which would output it quite nicely.
DTMs are routine. It??s a short step from there to cutting sections.
Anyone who'd done USACE work is familiar with generating sections.

Hi guys
I'm not referring to sections but sectional elevations. A section is all features/levels on the cut/section line. A sectional elevation is all things on the cut line AND features past the cut line projected onto it, i.e. buildings, wall etc.

If not a surveyor then who?
Here's a seabed topo at a wharf, produced in Civil 3D. The wharf structure and the orange facility have been modeled as 3D objects and then projected into the profile views (longt and cross), so they are dynamically cut by Civil 3D. The vessel is ordinary 2D linework, so it is not dynamic.

We be engineers who did this.
fobos8 I think means something like an architects elevation view, but for existing structures.?ÿ
i have never seen such a drawing, for the little that's worth. Maybe a cross section and a scan?
