I made a post last week about testing for my license. I received a lot of great advice, thank you for the help.
One question I have was a "Blue Book" was mentioned, having all the information I would need for the State specific portion of the exam. Can anyone tell me where I might find this, and what exactly it is. I've talked to a few local surveyors, and no one was familiar with the term.
Thank You
On a side note. I'm looking for work in Central Kansas. I am willing to travel, and possibly rent a home in another area for the work week. If anyone is looking or knows of a company needing help in the field or office. I can send a resume to anyone needing a copy. I'm willing to do fill in work, or temp work as well, but prefer a full time opportunity.
Thanks again.
I am not sure what the person was refering to when they said "Blue Book", but a few years ago when you were licensed in KY the board sent you a bound blue book with all the regulations and law pertaining to land surveying in KY. It also had examples of survey plats, legal descriptions, plat checklists, and other various handy forms. Since everyone has went digital they no longer do this. It was nice to come accross one in a pinch for referecne, but there really is no need for one now. What I did is print out all the up to date laws and regulations and bound them myself. It helped during study time to sit down and glance over them, but I always took the stance that the test was there to test your current knowledge. Those eight years leading up to the test is when you do the real studying. You either know it or you don't.
I've got a couple of ideas, but I don't know the answer. You might start a thread with Greg Shoults name in the subject item and try to get his attention. (I would go back to your old thread and make sure you spell his name right) and ask in that thread what he was talking about if he come in on this thread.
My State's professional society once put out a loose-leaf notebook (coincidently) colored blue with all of the state statutes that applied to land surveying.....maybe the Kansas board or the Kansas society of land surveyors did something similar. You could probably visit their web site.
I would also call the Kansas Board of registration (whatever it's called) and find out from them if they have a study guide or know of something called a "bluebook".
He might have meant "the official book" whatever that is. I noticed he put his term in quotations. Like the official book for car values being an old bluebook the first time I heard the term.
(NGS has a method for 'bluebooking' but I promise you don't want to go there. It is based on data that used to be put in a book colored blue also I believe)
Both the 76 Manual and the new 2009 Manual are blue bound books. Was that what he was referring to?

That's good advise. I recall when I called up the Oregon Board to initiate my application process the fellow at the other end was very helpful with study material suggestions.
The Blue Book I got was a quite large 3 ring binder full of the Kansas statutes and a few other things. I got mine from the KSLS (Kansas Society of Land Surveyors). When I last contacted them about updates, IMSM, I was directed to the Kansas Historical Society.
All of the information that you need for the State portion of the exam can be found at the Kansas Society of Land Surveyors web-site.
It has the Statutes, County Road Laws, Minimum Standards, etc,
I contacted KSLS today. It looks like they may have what I need. The Board also Suggested KSLS.
Thanks
Blue Book
Stephen had the right answer, I didn't have the book when I took the test, but several guys had a 3 ring binder with all of the rules and statutes and everyone called it the "blue book", mine were downloaded off of the web site and in a white binder, but I thought Kansas residents might be able to guide you to the right book, but you can download it right where the previous link went to.
Blue Book
I believe I found it. KSLS sells it for $90 if your a member, $110 for non members. They also have some other good study books. I've been meaning to join anyway, so next week I'm joining and ordering the books. The site says 4-6 weeks for delivery, but they told me a couple days.
Thanks for all the help.
