Is the FEMA Map Service down for you?
This is what is on the page after I input the address I'm looking for:
The following CommandException occurred during processing: "java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused".
Click here to return to the FEMA Map Service Center.
Click here to return to the FEMA Information Resource Library.
Any help is appreciated
Carl
I know it could have been down until May 28. I haven't tried back yet.
The list of maps shows but when I click to look at a particular map, it will not work.
It works for me in some areas and not in others. Seems to not work in the areas I need it to.
One of the world's three biggest lies.
I will respect you in the morning.
The check is in the mail.
I'M FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND I'M HERE TO HELP YOU.
I had the same problem last week. I found a website prepared by our own State Dept. of Agriculture that had it's own GIS data base and links to FEMA Tiles. VA might have something similar.
I think that is the message you get when it doesnt recognize the address. I had that happen this morning so I punched in the abutting address and it worked no problem. Very slow of course, but it worked.

I put in my own address as a check, which has worked before... no dice.
It's been very inconsistent since it went back online around May 28th, and the error messages have varied. Sometimes the site won't work at , sometimes it won't search, sometimes the maps won't load. Sometimes I go back 5 minutes later and try the search on the same computer, and it works fine .... Hopefully they work the bugs out soon.
We've tried to use it a couple of times since May 28th. Our experience has been that sometimes we can get it to work and sometimes we can't. When we couldn't we we tried again in a few hours and it worked. I assume that it is a "bug" that will be worked out, or at least I hope so.
UPDATE: Is the FEMA Map Service down for you?
I actually called the Map Service yesterday, the guy said they were having internet connectivity issues, and may be for awhile.
The guy suggested that surveyors need to contact their local Flood Plain Administrator for that information while their site is down. I believe that he said that every county is supposed to have someone designated as their Flood Plain Manager, even if it is not their primary job.
I hope this helps.

Still appears to be down. It starts out GREAT. Much faster than before, BUT when you try to view the floodmap, you get:
"ERROR: Could not load flat file list/viewtemp/wsp/item_10659226.txt"
Hope they get it fixed soon. If it still runs as fast as the first part is now, it will be a great improvement.

I agree. I get a different error message, but it won't load regardless.

Carl,
I've been having problems too getting error messages. I downloaded the newest Firmette Desktop file from the FEMA store and ran it. Typed in the address where I am surveying and it loaded the flood map just fine - ready to create a Firmette.
(Look for the file named Firmette_3.2.2.msi. I scanned the file first for viruses and malware before installing and it came out clean.)

Thanks for the suggestion, but apparently my area is one where the maps are not uploading, or whatever. I got the application installed, but the maps in my area are not available. 🙁
