So here's the thing about Kent

1. it's more than a little weird here to be speaking of someone in the 3rd person- someone who is actively participating in this thread.

2. there's also the issue of inference and things being lost in translation on-line. as i've gotten older, i've also gotten much better at taking things at face value. there's a huge difference, for example, in a guy coming into your office with a beet-red face and screaming "you're wrong!" and the same guy coming into your office and stating "i believe you are wrong" in an entirely otherwise level-headed manner. whereas in the past i might tend to get just as worked up in the second scenario as the first, these days i find it much easier to deal with people who don't bring any heaviness to bear in their discussions. if someone is being matter-of-fact, with no apparent underlying agenda or animosity behind it, then the responsibility for turning it into histrionics then falls squarely on me.

Bob,
I thought I would just chime in with a quick note. While I agree with many of the posters who came to Kent's "defense", I think it's fair to note that: no, it's not just you. A lot of guys have gotten frustrated with Kent's teasing or intellectual razzing (or whatever you might want to call it). I have been reading his posts for a lot of years and have been at the butt of his put-downs. I no longer get upset about it. Some guys get frustrated enough to resort to name-calling or personal put-downs. I must say that I have never seen Kent go there. (He's driven a few guys there, but I have never seen him resort to that even when he used to post to political threads)

re mapping standards:
It seems like years ago you would hire a "professional" drafter to draw your maps, and since then, and after CAD, many of us have really struggled by the seat of our pants to draw a decent-looking map. You would never see some of the sloppiness in the days of professional drafters that you see today. These guys were expert. There were manuals on drafting standards and the correct leroy pens to use, and how to line up text, and how to clean up drawings that many of us don't have the background for. I will say that if anyone can school folks like me, it is Kent on these matters. Most the "crap" I see have to do with the way CAD automatically lays things out, and the lack of trying to move numbers and items around to a more legible and cleaner position.

(so much for a "quick note"....o.O

Forgive Kent when he comes across that way...You see he spends his whole surveying time in Texas..its hot there...not a lot of people around...no trees to provide shade...so its just him and his lil' old GPS unit...so he sits that lil ol' GPS unit up on some rock and watches cows meander by as he collects his observations, all the while wishing he could survey in a real places like Connecticut. The he could do some "real" surveying.

Ok..on a serious note. I find his posts informative, I sense he works hard and is very conscientious...even if its just him and some cows.

No. The Army teaches leadership and how to follow orders. Obviously you are not military material and I probably should be thankful for that. You cannot bully real men. It's kind'a apparent that you have been bully bait. I rest my case. 😀

What's becoming really obvious reading all of the posts above is that we now have 2 posters that are trying to stir things up for whatever reason.
I'll point out the wuss that signed up just to challenge one of my replies. Now THERE is a REAL man. Sign up with a cutesy internet name and not have the courage to post under your own ID to disagree. One post. Aimed at a response. Hiding your identity. What a coward.
Guys, you just DO NOT start a thread to try to smear someone on an internet web site. Is that ethical?? I really do not think so.

I have two personal rules for posting on Beer Leg but I can only remember one of them (the other one may be important, though) .
The one I remember is:

"Never argue with Kent, he never gives up and he is usually right."

The other rule is Noilly Prat is the only acceptable French Vermouth in a Gin Martini.

AND don't listen to James Bond, it is a crime to shake a Martini.

What a pity that I chose to become educated rather than join the army and become regimental like you. It must be difficult for you to be on the outside wondering why there are people like me that do not follow your orders.

Perhaps you can win any argument and with enough intimidation you need not even be right. Well good luck with that because I am still smarter than you, I can make my own choices and I can think for myself.

I choose to work in a professional environment and reject people like you who cannot have intelligent disagreement. There is no doubt in my mind that you will win in a bloody barroom brawl because that is what you learned in the army. You would not be welcome in our professional environments just as I am not welcome in your private beer soaked clubhouse.

Finally when you say “I rest my case” do you realize what that means?

Historic boundaries and conservation efforts.

All I know is that tact is an amazing thing. The same thing can be said many ways.

What can be said in a manner where it is taken constructively, can also be said where it is belittling with hurtful intent.

Most, if not all of us can benefit from studying the art of tact.

Your disrepect for those serving is totally abhorent to me.
I understand that on the internet that anyone can be whatever they want to be, but does your PC know you are goofing off on the internet insted of cutting that line he wanted you to finish?? 😛
