I saw this opening on USAJobs.Gov. Last year I applied for similar GCDB jobs in Oregon and couple other states, and despite having a College Degree with honors, experience in geodetic surveying, least squares, building networks, and the like, with 20 years of experience, and 10 years licensed, I got the email back saying I wasn't a top canidate and I wouldn't be interviewed. I doubt $33,500 is a living wage anywhere on the West coast, but I couldn't even get a interview for a poverty level job I'm over-qualified for ... times are tough. They'll probably get 500 applicants.

Keep in mind this is a government job. They have to post that notice even though they probably already know who they're going to hire.

The other jobs were GS 7 - 11 (so they had higher pay), but seem to have the same description as this job, which is a GS 5 with a promotion potential of 11. Looks like they are lowing the starting grade for the same position. When I read the description, it says applicants are rated on a 100 scale with anything above 70 being "qualified". My last attempt, I got an email back that said my score was 97.8, but not high enough to be considered a top canidate ...

The last time I made $33,500 per year was about 15 years ago.

It would be tough to make it on that around here unless you are single and can find a room to rent or something like that.

I was in the gas station yesterday and overheard a conversation between two guys about wages. One of them said he had NEVER been paid more than 8 dollars an hour, and he was the only person working at the station. WOW!

A friend's son works for a lawn chemicals business.

The owner of the business has figured out he can cut all of his employee's wages and increase profits. Friend says the business owner has more money than he can spend while the employees are barely surviving. With unemployment so high no one is able to find a better job so far.

Remember that Vetrans get 10 bonus points. It is hard to beat someone that gets 105 to 110 points out of 100. The Vets really earn those points now.
