I am reviewing some plans for a proposal, the basis of bearing describes a section, in the county. "Said bearing being north south east west." Brilliant.

That kind of statement is there just to distract you from a more egregious error somewhere else. Ignore it and move on.?ÿ

I cringe when someone makes the reference to a drawing by another surveyor that the drawing is not of record and the surveyor and his records are long gone.

For years, "Bearings based on one magnetic observation and turned angles."?ÿ Find any two adjacent monuments and rotate to the called bearing.?ÿ You should be within a minute or two (on short lines).

I'm of 2 minds with this issue. On the one hand, it looks bad for us all when one of us writes a stupid one. On the other, I can't recall a single instance where the basis of bearings had any effect on any boundary resolution of mine.?ÿ?ÿ
