What on earth would possess a surveyor to cross a state line, into a state he isn't licensed, survey a tract, disregard a well marked line, produce a plat with his home state stamp on it, and while in the process of all this, create a boundary dispute with the federal government? Why, oh why would anyone do that?
...it seemed like a good idea at the time...
Did he use monuments from his state?
Could he be reprimanded by two boards?
Don't know yet. It will be interesting to see how all this unfolds. Right now, the least of his worries appears to be surveying without a license. He may end up having to pay damages in civil court due to his client encroaching on the feds.
'cuz he was hungry? Maybe somebody else who got a hold of his stamp was hungry. Stupid move anyway you look at it.
Let's assume that he actually did it and there was no forgery. I can understand doing the survey, if he was in a bad way. I would. However, there is no way in hell I would produce a plat with my name on it documenting what I did. When I got finished with that survey, there would be nothing outside my possession that could tie me to it.
Tommy,
How could you understand if he was in a bad way?
A bad way sweeps it under the carpet?
just don't understand the logic.
You say that you would do this but would bury all evidence that would link you to the survey, please clarify.
Randy
A key word in Tommy’s comment is assume.
The way I understand what he wrote is:
The guy has committed a series of infractions for whichever reason (s). Because of the unlawful status of this over-the-line endeavour, a smart unlawful person would probably carry its unlawfulness acts in an untraceable way.
I disagree with Tommy though; I don’t think the dude will lose any money in the courts. I think the government and other parties will just say “the hill with it”, get if fix by a qualified well-reputed firm and move on.
Sometimes folks just act on impulse without thinking through the possible consequences. :-S Clearly makes them candidates for "Idiot of the Month"
To me his big nightmare IS being caught for surveying w/o a license... he will definitely lose his home state license as well as any others he has. Those things tend to cascade all the way through each of his licenses. Seen it happen a few times.
The tract was owned by someone who did not support or endorse Chris Christie. The surveyor "was" one of Chris Christie's staff. Chris Christie was not aware that this happened.
You have to wonder, what was he smoking?
