You need to put 10 quarters on the ground and set a tripod over all 10 of them in less than 2 minutes. 😉

For the past forty years or so, I give a 10-minute test at the end of each semester in which the student has to set up a transit/theodolite on a stiff-leg tripod plumb & level over a nail in 10 minutes or less. They get multiple tries, but have to keep trying until they are successful. (Optical plummet, no plumb bobs allowed.)
World records: Fastest - 37 seconds
Slowest - 2.5 days

Heck, if you can't set up the solar transit over the lath, and then drop the plumb bob to check it......you got some learning to do!
