I have heard of Florida Water and you can purchase it at various locations. Never used it But know some who did in a variety of ways. Some people doo it too, I have been told. But most soak towels.

I always used soaked bandanas in cold water and then there are neck bandanas that have gel packs sewn  within that can be frozen. They worked well but you  still have to slack up a bit when the weather gets hot. Start earlier and wrap it up earlier.

You hit on another of my least favorite aspects of working hot weather FD. Chafing. Few things can add misery of my day like a heat rash in the crotch. Once it flares up, usually in hot humid weather, not much I can do but walk like a bow legged cowboy. I go through a lot of talcum powder in hot weather trying to stay ahead of it, but I don't think for the life of me I could wear Carharts or heavy carpenter jeans in steamy hot weather. I've gone so far as to track down and experiment with underwear that 'lifts and separates' my man bits in an attempt to avoid a flare up, with some success. Got to keep them man bits happy! They're not happy, I'm miserable.

Williwaw, the solution is to keep your thighs from rubbing together in the first place. I've researched this a bit and there are things out there to solve it but you will have to get over some hangup because it is very similar to a compression stocking.

A long time ago I read a story about the ancient Romans and Greeks and when their army marched they had leather thingy's that they would wrap around their upper thighs and tie them to prevent the thighs from touching.

First aid zinc ointment, failing that a diaper cream with high zinc content will prevent and help heal chafing.

I am also in Alaska and thought it was nice outside.?ÿ I moved here 4 summers ago from Nevada and the trick I've always used was to get up and start work extra early.?ÿ Get it done before the afternoon heat hits. The drawback here is that there are no air conditioners in most buildings. I feel your pain.?ÿ

It has been over 100 here pretty much every day for the past month and we have been in the field 27 of the last 33 days.We have had many days over 105.

We start early. We are setting up our base with flashlights. We get more done between 6 & 10 than we do between 10 & 5 just because it is cool and you can move faster. We drink lots of water and no sodas. I take magnesium citrate supplements and eat plenty of salt and potassium ?ÿif I don't I get cramps from sweating it all out.?ÿ

Eating healthy and not drinking too much alcohol helps a lot. We have a guy one the crew who is young but he is overweight and eats a horrible diet. Nothing but junk food. He pukes in the field almost every day when it is hot. I give him credit though he has been working for me since 2012 and he has always been like this and he never quits. We try to tell him if you didn't eat donuts for breakfast, candy bars for lunch and McDonalds for dinner you might not be puking every day.?ÿ

The only thing that kills me with the heat is if I don't start early. When I get in the field early in the morning and work into the heat it doesn't bother me but if I am in the AC all day and jump out in the heat at 3PM it kicks my butt.

?ÿ

After seeing that cologne, I'm wondering if I was misunderstood or if somebody was pulling my leg!  It's been over 30 years since I was told my ammonia water was called Florida water so I can't remember for sure who it was that told me that.  I bet that stuff works better than Old Spice!
