We had a newly hired rodman this morning tried to attack his crew chief with a prism pole, a machete, and a beer bottle. Said rodman is now in the custody of the state police.

Hub Northing?

Wow, that's bad. I have seen some rough rod-men in the past but that takes it. Did you check his references?

Hope nobody got hurt.

Come on

Not a whole lot more that I can give. He had been here less than two weeks and this morning when he was told to cut some line, he went berserk.

Back in the early 70's a vet went native after we stepped off into a river bottom. I had to "go there with him" and talk him into down time to have a few beers and get out of this jungle.

Makes the ride home rather awkward.

Without knowing anymore, it sounds like there was a dynamic that the rodman didn't like, and expressed himself like so many do these days. I don't know the tone of the PC though. Some people, no matter how low on the totem pole, simply don't like to be told what to do, even if they know nothing about the task involved. I hope everybody is OK, and you get your project done without any more incidents.

How old was the guy, and how old is the PC?

Carl

Wow! Your crews carry beer bottles?

I've had a couple of instances where I have felt like attacking a crew chief. Like the guy who said we didn't have enough time for me to get a drink of water, at the end of a very hot day. There's no excuse for behavior like that, but some people do have a way of pushing your buttons.

One of 'em musta been a Yankee and the other a Reb. Has anyone else had a similar problem with the chief? Makes me think you must have been a bit too desparate for rodman help.

Come on

I worked with a guy who would go berserk when told to cut line too. He would take off with the chain saw and cut a perfect line right to the next corner. Rarely needed to do any follow-up trimming, he got it right the first time! Must have seen him do this a dozen times - one of the strangest things I have ever witnessed. I would never, ever have believed it if I hadn't been there to see it.
