I was working on a worksheet, for another surveyor, (I share data) and could not remember what section was directly north of the one I was in. My wife HID my last one, I had made, and posted on the wall, during the last house cleaning... so I made another.
Then, I thought, I'll share this.
So, here it is. Print and use.

I made up this diagram while searching Iowa GLO notes in a library. I'm not sure how widely the key letter system was used.

When I worked with/for the old GLO Cadastral Surveyor in 1959-1960, he expected you to know where each section was in respect to another right off the top of your head when he would ask you and didn't want to wait for an answer.
