It looks like real estate agents are going to make a case for getting BP money, due to declining interest in gulf coast properties. Seems like appraisers, termite inspectors, title agents, mortgage companies, and um ... surveyors, too, might have a case.

Why not Surveyors?....because it is a bunk claim. Only the Real Estate industry would want this kind of action.

"When I spoke with a real estate investor in Florida last month, he told me that some condo investors were already getting checks from BP [BP 36.10 0.90 (+2.56%) ], although I have no proof of that."

Because it ain't true. Trial lawyers bottom feed of this kind of crap

Only CNBC would run a ad (not article) of this nature. This is the lime light of the most inefficient generation to date! Yeah....go ahead and shoot at will...I won't shoot back or even debate this nonsense.

The title of the article should have read "Realtors want BP's Money so they are making up stupid claims to get the attention of....."

BP is taking claims.
They are saying that they will pay off in 4-7 days if your paperwork is together.
A lot of seafood restaurants are filing claim here. Even the legendary Antoine's in the French Quarter.
We went to the Acme Oyster House the other day and they had to raise e their oyster prices significantly to cover costs.
For a Monday, I thought they had an ok crowd. They did have a sign up saying that they appreciated your business during these rough and depressed times because of the spill.
I think there was a poster on the ole board who had FL. beach rentals and said that he was filing a claim since people had canceled on him.
remember everything is negotiable..right

Now starts the money grab. Real-estate Agents shouldn't get a penny. The money needs to go to those who are truly affected.

My parents have a condo on Perdido Key in Pensacola.

Summer bookings literally dropped to zero as a result of the spill. I'm not an attorney, but that sounds like "damage" to me.

The claim is filed and BP is going to pay.

FWIW.

Do you really think real estate sales are not being affected? If you make your living selling it, I would say it's a legitmate claim.

You could make the case for just about anyone in the region being affected by the oil spill.

From lost parking meter revenue, to reduced hot dog sales to the local hookers.

At least the Hooker's client enjoys the screwing unlike the Realtor's screwing.

So is my claim...Ya know why?... because I could of done this and could have done that, but that mean ole BP kept me from doing so....blah blah blah and it is about as legitimate as the real estate trolls.

Look...let's get real about all this. EVERYONE there is affected. The pissants usually throw the first stone. But that doesn't mean the rest have to jump on the band wagon.

Illegitimate claims screw things up for the rest. The judge will be the decide.

It seems odd to me that you say "EVERYONE there is affected", but you think that BP shouldn't be held accountable for the affect that BP's problem is having on "everyone". I'd agree it's a smaller affect when compared to fishermen and tourism, but it's still an affect and pretty clear damage being caused to the real estate market and related businesses.

If the BP fund Czar isn't going to pay, I'd bet the realtors and some other real estate services form a class action suit against BP.

I can't see BP surviving.

TPR,

"....but you think that BP shouldn't be held accountable for the affect..."

I never said they shouldn't be accountable. But quite frankly I don't think the real estate folks should be the ones driving any claims. that's all I meant.

Your right about BP surviving....yes they are big and have lots of funds ....but still...thats going to take a toll on their bottom line. I guess time will tell.

I would never file a claim for lost revenue, even though I am 40 miles from the Gulf and by some stretch of some fevered litigator's mind suppose I have been affected.

My problems are not due to BP, but due to the de facto collapse of the economy. Can I sue the responsible parties for that? Not a chance.

You guys need to listen to Alfred P. Doolittle.

If you can't afford middle class morality then take the money!

That was me...

I own and manage 3 beach rentals in Panama City Beach, FL.

Flip Flop Beach Rentals, LLC

At the beginning of vacation season, I was 100% booked for the Summer. During May and early June, I was receiving 1-2 cancellations a week, due to BP.

I contacted the local claims office and learned I was eligible to file a claim due to lost income courtesy of BP.

I started the claim process then, and so far, I have provided all necessary documentation requested by BP... tax returns, ledgers, business license, copies of contracts and cancellations...

So far...nada... 😐

Maybe the local guy on TV recently who was complaining that his computer business has been affected by the oil is having better luck than me.....
