Anybody out there familiar with the Topcon GPT 1002 or similar?
If so, what's the "circle drive knob" located on the base for? I can't see where it discusses its use in the manual and haven't seen any effect when turned.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks.
Circle drive knob?....can you post a pic? I've the GPT 7003i.
Edit:is it one of the knobs shown here?
I'm curious to see a picture as well.
The photos that I have seen of a GPT-1002 don't indicate (or show) more than the single [upper] knob.
My GTS 3b has both upper and lower "knobs," but that is a different critter.

I've got a GPT 1003 and it looks the same as the picture Craig posted.
Here's an excerpt from the GPT-1002 manual (I don't have the gun, I was just curious):
Thanks Jim
I just downloaded the TOPCON Manual, and saw that same picture.
I can only ASSUME that it does the same thing as the "lower knob [motion]" on my GTS 3b (and my T2). I use it when turning multiple sets inorder to "interrogate" different portions of the encoded “circle.”

Thanks Jim
I have a 303 that has the same design. I never needed to use it, just checked each setup to make sure it had not worked loose. If it gets loose, you'll turn some funny angles.
Interesting that the center knob is not provided in certain markets.
Hmmm
Not sure still. The 1002 has a hold angle function that already replaces the need for a lower motion knob, so not sure that would be the case.
Mine free spins and doesn't seem to have any effect whatsoever. Appears to be electronic in nature and not mechanical.
Anyways, just curious as I just inherited this thing and want to understand it fully. I have run other similar instruments such as the 211d and never had this knob on it.
