GPS stakeout with Leica Captivate software, how do I change point number increment behavior?

Hello everyone. I am using a Leica cs20 data collector with Leica Captivate 3.20 software. I am doing a lot of stakeout with the gps and I noticed that, whenever I stake a point and store it, the data collector automatically chooses the next number going down.

For example, if I stake out point 9000, after storing my stake shot, the data collector will then automatically select point 8999 to stake.

My question is, how do I change this behavior to something else? I would prefer to actually increment the next stake out number 1 by, not go down by 1. I have looked all over the collector for any possible settings, I can't find it anywhere. It seems very odd that this option either doesn't exist or is buried in some unrecognizable settings somewhere.

So I am hoping someone more knowledgeable can assist me. Is there anyway to change the next automatic selection of a point number during stake out in Leica Captivate? Thanks everyone.

Look into sorting your point list. That's how it worked with the prior smartworx viva sw if i remember correctly. You should be able to sort the pt list in ascending or descending point ID.

First, are you referring to the store point value or the actual design point number?

I can not verify this is the same for v3.2 since my CS20 is loaded with the v5 now and I can not remember if there were changes made since v3.x.

If you are referring to the store point value, you have a few choices in the stakeout setting.?ÿ You can store the design point number, the design point with a prefix/suffix or store with a new individual number.?ÿ The individual number is controlled by the ID template under settings/customization.

If you are referring to the design point number, in the stakeout settings you can choose to automatically stake the closest point.?ÿ It could be that your point sort/filter is set to descending (or could be ascending).

Nice! Thank you MAG-EYE and John Putnam for your responses. Yes in fact I was having my overall point list sorted by descending order, with the highest point numbers listed first and then going down from there. I never expected this was the reason for causing the auto-decrement point behavior in the stake out function. Wonderful suggestion. I will try that out the very next time I go into the stakeout function.

John Putnam yeah I was talking about the design point number being selected for the next point automatically to stake out. I found it weird that you can't have the leica captivate software automatically add the text 'STK' into the description of the stored stake shot, I have to manually add that every time, it's a pain. I know you can do this with carlson surveCE. But even with trimble access you can't seem to do this, and have to manually add in the 'stk' or whatever preffix or suffix the user wants.

It just seems every survey software does different things and none of them is perfect. I will say that Leica Captivate seems to have the highest learning curve of any of the other data collector softwares I've used (leica captivate, trimble access, surveCE, surveypro).

I dunno if anyone is still using smartworx, in that soft; transfer data-copy points between jobs-filter-select the behavior you want, and then change it back to "no filter", and the sorting will stick.?ÿ

@driftingsand

You can have Captivate add a prefix or suffix to your store point in the stakeout routine.  It is controlled in the settings for the app.  I use it all of the time.

@john-putnam  we do the same thing and it is applied to every stake point automatically.

Still wish it would add a number such as 10,000 to each staked point, makes it very easy to check between your points and your staked points. I really like our Leica equipment but when we had our older Topcons they did something I really like which was to add a constant to any point number when staked.

So, if you staked point 52, it stored as 10052; if you staked point 1254, it stored as 11254 and so on. Keeps a really easy relationship between the point numbers. Unfortunately Leica has not added this even though we have asked multiple times.

@gregg-gaffney

You could add a numeric prefix.  My layout design points fall within a specific point range so that would work great for me.  If your layout point numbers are random, maybe not so much.

@john-putnam  thanks John, we tried that but it doesn't add a "constant" like 10000 to every point. I was hoping that would work as well. The beauty with the 10000 addition is you instantly know what the original point number was. It is such an easy item to add, and supposedly we were not the first to ask Leica to do so but so far no luck
