Running a sokkia grx1 UHF radios and no luck with fixing. Just float. Fire up the other units Topcon Hiper 2 SPREAD SPEC radios and works fine. Any idea what can be causing this? Sokkia says it's too much "chatter" although we are in a rural area. Any one have this issue before?

It Is Not GPS Chatter

It is too much chatter on your radio connection.

Have you tried switching channels?

Not only will a scanner tell you if there is voice or data traffic on the channels, you will know if your radio is broadcasting correctly. There is a distinctive sound, that varies according to the actual protocol being used. They each sound different.

Note that the frequencies that are commonly used for RTK in the US are also available for voice (by licensed users), and voice has priority over data. So, if the radio detects voice on the channel, it will not transmit.

Your problem could also be an incorrect protocol or baud setting. These must match in both the transmitter and receiver. For example, I use a TSC2 and a Trimble R8. There are 3 choices for the base radio mode: TT450S at 9600 bps, TT450S at 4800 bps, and Trimark II at 4800 bps. I recall that if I use an external radio, there are other choices as well. These must match.

Yeah it's just strange that all of a sudden. We triple checked all of the settings and our other GPS unit works fine. I am going to buy a radio scanner today. Thanks

Just scratching around here, but are your receivers and data collector(s) up to date on firmware?

I use a Uniden BCD396XLT which has wideband and trunking capabilities, but you can certainly get a simpler one for under $100:

Yes. I paid to have them "updated" but no help.

In addition to John Hamilton's excellent advice, you can try this trick (works with Trimble...don't know about Sokkia equipment).

Set the frequency you want to use, then configure the base radio as a 'repeater'. Does the 'transmit' light on the radio flash? If so, someone else is already using that frequency.
