My party chief calls and says the CE1/16 he was going to set has a BLM brass cap on it (not of record) and the SE1/16 has a rebar (also no record-but not too much of a surprise) wants to know if he should replace it or not. Yes I say, client wants a nice new monument (turns out the rebar was all of 18" long and mushroomed out so a cap was going to be a chore to set on it).

On to the next section and maybe more unrecorded stuff.

Careful when you say BLM brass cap not of record. Had to eat crow on a few of em...no official measurements just notes tucked away in an adjacent township file noted as "Remonumentation of Certain Original Corner" and a little blurb "as provided for in the Special Instructions, Group No. 578 dated January 4, 1971, "Investigation of Collateral or Physical Evidence of Corner Positions and Accessories Followed by Remonumentation of Corner Points, with New Accessories when Needed." The remonumentation of original corner points was made at the request of the Grand Junction District Manager, Grand Junction, Colorado. Found some remonumented and dated 1971 but never described in the notes also. I like the "the corner is situated in open, rolling sagebrush; no close topography."

With a monument already in a position you accept, why would you replace it? Also, why would you cap an iron you found?

Upgrading to a 30" rod and 3-1/4" aluminum cap. That's the minimum for my client on this project. I have to get my number on any accepted monument so it's easier to go ahead and set a nice one than too pull out that rebar ang file or grind down the head so a cap will fit.

Pablo, this one isn't of record....yet. Still waiting on the plat to come out. You'll probably remember and old survey you did in a newly burned area. This 1/16 is part of it. Didn't expect them to set that 1/16th, but there it is.

That BLM cap is close enough that all I have to do is dimple it...just fits on the edge of the cap.

So, the BLM cap needs a dimple? Hmm.

And what would you have done if your position had landed just off the cap?

Pablo, I'm thinking you will remember this section, for some reason there is a BLM cap at the CE1/16, no doubt there is also a new one at the NE1/6. Jamie found a rebar at the SE1/16, very close to my calc., so he set a new cap. Not much left to monument in that section.

I remember that area very well. You probably get tired of me comin in and stirring up the hornets nest and leaving it all for you to fix. 😀
