After a couple of "dry" months one of our larger clients just 'loaded' us up with a butt load of work. Among others, one is 2 miles of dense urban r/w and topo plus adding a mile or so onto a 7 mile rural route we did last fall and a 10 acres substation site.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy as pig in doo-doo with the additional work load. There's enough to keep busy for a good while. I'm smilin' while I dig everything up that everybody is gonna need for the next few weeks. Life is good. Let's "git 'er dun!"
Then the phone rings Friday afternoon. It's a private client that purchased around 700 acres last year for his personal hunting and fishing retreat. He's buying 300 acres more...
This area is all closed sections, mature woods and not a soul around, you know, "fun surveying". Lots of existing corners from the original GLO. It's a 'Theme Park for Surveyors' if you enjoy retracing the original surveys. I do, and this client understands the nature of the work. It's all hourly and he has told me more than once, "take your time." We gave him some really good work the first time and I expect this time around won't be any different. Trouble is we won't be able to get to it for at least 3 weeks, weather permitting.
Now I'm gonna be in a hotel room cranking on the corporate work while I'm dreaming of digging up original corners 200 miles away. I guess I'm just going to have to grin and bear it...
Life must really be good if that is all I can find to belly-ache about. 😉
Did I mention he's given us permission to fish the 80 acre pond? Better oil up the Zebco.
Paden,
You gotta take the good with the bad. Catch one for me!
If you need any help let me know. I'm in Kansas, but would be willing to come down for work. I'll be happy to bring my rods and tackle too..lol
You put a smile on my face today.
