I'm working on a large project which is my office fun this week. We surveyed about 5 miles of existing road centerline. The road (mostly gravel but some paved) is on a property that we are acquiring. My task is to survey the centerlines relative to the land net of PLSS corners then describe them all in strip descriptions of stated width. I am shooting for getting this done this week because I'm going to finish the field work on another project next week then it is Record of Survey drafting the week after that.

I'm telling you 98% of the people work hard and don't talk much except at lunch and breaks or brief how are you's in the hallways. But 2% cause most of the disruption.

One person has been requested numerous times to stay away. Finally this week she kept having loud conversations nearby interrupting my train of thought. I finally got fed up and loudly and pointedly asked her to take her chatter somewhere else, anywhere, outside, private office, the closet, somewhere but get out of here. Then I went into my boss's office, closed the door and let him know about the possible approaching storm. Once again he told her manager to keep her away from our part of the office (she's from another part of the org chart). She has been talking loudly outside his office especially after the injustice of being chewed out by a cranky Land Surveyor. Fun times, I'm telling you.

And he wants the project I'm working on completed ASAP, of course.

To relieve your stress

May I recommend Sierra Nevada Hoptimum?
Now keep in mind the 10.4 ABV, which, incidentally, you failed to point out to me.
And remember that Blameuser Beer Consultants International takes no responsibility for your actions or your attitude.
But enjoy one at your coffe break and let us know what happens in re: noisy lady.
🙂

Once upon a time I was the loud-talking perpetrator. My supervisor appeared and chewed my tail right there. That was incredibly embarrassing. Shortly thereafter I found a much better employer. What was really happening, unbeknownest to me at the time, was that he had previously ripped into the two people with whom I was chatting for spending too much time chatting and not getting their work done. He decided to make an example of me to use as ammunition to get them to be more diligent about staying on task. His decision to involve me in his problem showed me just what type of supervisor I did not ever wish to become. Apparently, I was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.

Being one's own boss does have some wonderful advantages.

maybe so but I don't post during the workday.

I'd get going on posting and my work would not get done then I would be stuck in the office for another week which is really detrimental to my sanity!

Guilty as charged. My energy feeds off of others. Probably spent too many long hours as a kid isolated on a tractor.

Digger,

I was also abused as a child. If I wanted something when I was a child, I had to earn it. My brother and I were scourged into household chores. I was forced into the 'paper-boy' slave labor racket at the age of twelve. I was also belittled and demeaned by being forced to mow and clean fence rows for long hours in the hot sun.

At the age of fourteen I was coerced into buying my own school clothes out of my own pocket. I even had to pay for my own car and gasoline!

Brother, I'm amazed we made it out alive.

Give 'em a break. They aren't posting in all-caps for Chrissake.

I was manager of a surveying firm years ago that the owner's exwife had 49% interest and held the title of person that sits at the front with a window to the world and gets first conversation with whoever enters the building.

Two days every week she held her hen sessions with about half dozen of her chatty crowd that would last from half hour to day long revelries depending upon their seasonal vibes and local gossip content. During that time, a local pastor would drop in for a prayer session.

Needless to say, there were not enough out of the office research trips, nooners, client meetings and amount of computations and drawings to be done to allow me to be absent from the office and be consumed by their antics.

I drank more during that time than ever.

I do not miss that job at all.

B-)
