Drove by this a couple of days ago and just had to stop yesterday to take a picture. I have a close up of the monument as well, but whoever was in charge of this artwork decided to place lewd graffiti on the monument itself with their marker.

Suddenly, the dozer operator thought to himself, "What was that weird crunching noise I just heard?"

I know a color blind engineer capable of that because he claims he can not see anything orange and has the compulsion to make everything as pink as possible.

Looks as thou a second culprit followed the pink hood to tie orange around everything.

:-O

Many years ago my wife and I drive past a similar scene. She asked what it meant.

I said "It's surveyors yelling."

a number of years ago before i had a cell with a camera i witnessed something i wish i could share.

a local realtor then owned a very fancy golden suv. this particular morning there was a grade stake plunged straight through the plastic that is supposed to be a bumper.

I use about 1% of the paint that I did 10 years ago.

We work in a lot of beautiful natural areas and it just seems wrong to paint up the place with Surveyor graffiti. So it was taking an extra few minutes for us to find our control points. My new boss (helping me as my rodman) said, "you should paint these." What can I say, he comes from Caltrans. Sure on the highway, but out here? I didn't tell him the paint can he was using clearly says, "Spray Chalk" on it and will be gone after the next rain. 😉

I hate seeing a beautiful place unnecessarily graffited with Surveyor paint.

looks like its just missing the claymores...

We are sometimes involved in doing BLM 14(h) surveys at the other extreme of decoration. We don't use any flagging...we cut no or minimal brush ...we don't want the corners we set to be found...the finished plats are not for public viewing...any documentation or maps we are given to help us do the surveys must be returned so as to be destroyed. We call em stealth surveys...Archeological and historical in nature...mostly graves or old village sites consisting of sod houses and such...

What is the brand of you spray chalk? I agree we do not need to add obscene grafitti in the forest or in town. And yes it is when one see nice aggregate walks and brick work all painted up. One reason to record field ties to your control in your FIELDBOOK, with a sketch IS SO YOU CAN RECOVER YOUR CONTROL QUICKLY.

Water based flo orange paint is a favorite of mine.

Dane-you must know the law of sketches.

If I do up a nice sketch then I never need that point again.

If I don't, well, then I do.

The spray chalk is "Aervo Water Based Marking Chalk." It looks just like white paint but disappears after one or two rains not that the flo pink lasts much longer.

Quite likely there is a story that goes with this effort. Like some doorknob office dork project manager who couldn't find the control point if it bit him on the ankle.

Anyway, if you don't want the mower to take out your basket you had better put out enough protection to jam up the mower. And if the boss won't pay for t-posts that's a job that takes a lot of lath to get done.

I agree, N.O. That point obviously needs protection.
Sadly, from my experience, that may not be enough:-(
