A Call To All Members from President Ferrans

HB 5005 To Be Heard Thursday Morning

You Are Needed in Tallahassee

The agenda has just been published and HB 5005 (Deregulation) will be heard in the House Economic Affairs Committee beginning at 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

Your presence is needed - please do everything you can to be in attendance at the meeting. It's your profession so it's your responsibility. To prepare for your trip please do the following:

1. Call the Administrative Office (800.237.4384) and inform staff that you will be in attendance.

2. Let them know if you need a hotel room tomorrow (Wednesday) night. A small block has been reserved.

3. We have four (4) bedrooms in private homes that have been offered by surveyors and mappers in Tallahassee on a first come first served basis. If you would like one of those, please act quickly.

4. Because of limited downtown parking during the Legislative Session, we are meeting at the Administrative Office by 7:15 a.m. to carpool downtown.

5. The Committee will be meeting in Reed Hall (Plaza Level) of the House Building at the Capitol (400 South Monroe).

6. You will be required to go through Security to get to Reed Hall.

7. Keep contacting your legislators and all of those listed in yesterday's Email Bulletin - Legislative Update. To find your legislators go to www.leg.state.fl.us.

Thank you to every member for your diligence contacting your legislators about this bill. You are making a difference! Be assured that many others have offered their support - ACSM/NSPS, NCEES, MAPPS, FLTA and others who have asked not to be named at this time.

Anyone from Southwest Florida heading up?? Let's GO!

If there aren't at least 50 surveyors show up, y'all had just as well give up.

I sent an email to my local peeps to organize a road trip.. had one no-can-do already.. seems short sighted to me, but what can I do, short of kidnapping?

I will be there, hell or high water.

Andy-

If numbers are needed, how about cleanly dressed, well presented, staff persons too?

Good idea, if I only had staff! I don't think they would let my yellow lab in, since she isn't a service dog. 😉

50!?!?!

Well, I was trying to be optimistic with the idea that the profession wouldn't be dead if only 50 showed up. But yes, there ought to be at least a few hundred there.

I am making plans to be there. I am also seeing if a good friend who is local and also a surveyor wants to go up as well.

I just did a mass e-mail to all my clients and urged all of them to take a few minutes to e-mail the reps tomorrow and let them know how they felt about this proposal.

I found out about this 24 hours ago via an e-mail from GAG Computers.

I am down to no staff so taking a weekday off is difficult at best. I am putting in a long day tomorrow and leaving after work to drive up.

Just to be clear the address for the administration office we are meeting up at is:

301 S Monroe St # 202
Tallahassee, FL 32301

If this is not it, please post up the correct address.

BTW- I signed up here after searching google about HB5005 and found a link to here.

Great site I plan on poking around here some.

How about unregistered technicians who value the profession. Would our voice be of value at the committee meeting?
