> Why doesn't the software come preloaded with a standardized setup?
As was once told to me... "The great thing about standards is that everyone has one." 😉

Indeed. I am thinking of preparing a fld and a dwt, together with a field code listing, and posting them for one and all. I wonder if anyone else has done so?

A quick check shows that I have 30+ different agency cad standards saved on my network...from AOC (Architect of the Capitol) to WVDOT
Not sure how many attempts have been made. Not sure if an actual surveyor has made an attempt.
National Cad Standards. Not sure how many variations of this standard I have seen.
AASHTO Feature Codes for of and by Highway Engineers who obviously never surveyed a day in their life. I had a bridge engineer ask one time how he was to know where the end roll was if I did not use the end roll code. I told him it was usually along the slope from the abutment under the bridge. We took the the 5 seconds needed to correct the feature codes to help him with his confusion.
Of course we can simply sit back and let the GIS folks dictate the standards for us.
